State Fair Recipes: Pork Rolls
This is the last of the 5 recipes the Farmboy and I shared at the South Carolina state fair on Monday.
It was also one of the department of Ag staff's favorite.
It's a fun little party food or appetizer
especially when you are at the end of your leftovers.
Pork Rolls:
Ingredients
Pulled Pork
1 bag of slaw mix
sweet pickle relish
BBQ sauce
Salt
Pepper
Garlic Powder
Wonton wrappers
Oil for frying
Directions
In a bowl combine slaw mix, sweet pickle relish, BBQ sauce, pulled pork, a pinch of salt, pepper, and garlic powder. (You can include as much or as little of each ingredient as you would like to really make this your own. Just be sure to not use too much BBQ sauce).
Place 1 wonton wrapper on a flat surface with one corner pointing at you. Spoon about 1 tablespoon full of the mixture into the center of the wrapper. Lightly brush the edge of the wrapper with BBQ sauce (or water). Fold the edge farthest from you over the top of the filling to make a triangle, press the edges gently to seal them.
In a deep fryer or large Dutch oven (I use a deep cast iron frying pan) pour oil to a depth of 1 inch. Heat the oil to medium high heat.
Fry the Pork Rolls in batches for about 2 minutes or until golden brown on each side. Drain on paper towels. Serve with BBQ sauce.
**Be sure to let these cool for a moment before you dig in!
These tasty little treats are quick and simple to make. The Farmboy loves helping to make them. This is an easy recipe for the kids to get involved in the kitchen with. I hope you have enjoyed our mini-series of State Fair Recipes. Be sure to check all our recipes under the Homecooking Recipes tab.
Until we meet again...may God bless you and keep you!
