Saturday Sew & Tell

Welcome back!

As I have mentioned numerous times I love to sew.

I spend much of my free time stitching away.

For years I've had a small Etsy & Facebook show specializing in handmade bunting banners and children's clothes. Over the last few years I have also gotten into testing patterns for designers.

This week I tested these adorable shorts from Peek-A-Boo Patterns.

The Baja Shorts are available in sizes 3 months to size 12. This makes a great buy for someone with multiple kids. These shorts can be made in woven, knit or a swim short fabric. They even include an optional lining!!

I love these as everyday shorts. Even with the side accent panel and the pocket detail they sew up in less than an hour from printing to finish. I tested the 6 month size for Farmgirl 2. I was excited that they covered her cloth diapered bottom well. CD mommas know that can be an issue.

Shop Saturday!!

Some of you may know that my "side job" is sewing.

My love for sewing started years ago watching my Granny

create amazing things for others.

That passion was passed on to me in the form of

clothes...

I enjoying sewing for myself from time to time but

my passion is sewing clothes for kids.

That passion pushed me to open

This shop just isn't a way to make extra money (which trust me is nice)

It's my mission. For each item I sell in the shop a similar item is donated to a child in need.

The shop lets me share the amazing gift God has given me with others,

it lets me help those who are in need at home and aboard.

Hi Y'all! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

I know, I know it's been months!

What can I say...

school started,

show season hit,

fall calving,

I opened a new Etsy shop,

and life all gets in the way of my blogging.

It doesn't mean I don't want to but other things take priority...

like my faith, family & the farm.

I thought I would take a few moments to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year...cause let's be honest...I probably won't blog again until 2017!

Enjoy these photos from the last couple of months!

Our oldest had a great show season and brought home Grand & Reserve at almost every show he went to!

Our middle is just enjoying life as a 3 year old on the farm.

At our local show both boys got a chance to show lambs & dairy cattle.

Our oldest in the championship drive at state fair with his Brown Swiss heifer, Reece. This heifer has since calved and had an adorable little heifer we have named Paige.

Farmboy2 isn't old enough to show just yet but he loves helping out in the wings. Here he is holding Catrina.

Our last show of the season is one of our favorites. These folks do a great job!

Then came Halloween with a lumberjack, Little Red Riding Hood & a hunter

That hunter got a new dog named Copper late in November.

Our oldest enjoys showing so much that he has already started breaking next years showstring calves.

Visiting Santa was an adventure this year...our sweet farmgirl hated the experience but the boys thought it was great LOL

One of my favorite dresses to date!

This romper is so cute and a wonderful fall piece.

I am loving having my own personal model...she enjoys it too!

These 2 flannel & lace tunics are so soft and adorable!

Our Christmas outfit has me swooning!

Then a few accessories for moms. Yes they are dishcloths but let's be honest if we have to do dishes let's make sure it's cute.

What she made Wednesday!!

I had a grand plan to make Easter outfits for me and the 2 littles plus ties for Farmboy1 & the Farmer...but life got the better of me...that and procrastination.

So we ended up in store bought...which don't get me wrong was adorably cute but not what I envisioned.

Let's not mention the fact that Farmgirl's orginial dress is cut and just awaiting me to sit down and actually sew and monogram it. Or that now I have an excess fabric stash...oh who am I kidding I always have that LOL!!!

I might not have got to Easter dresses but I did do a selfish sew and made me a wonderful sheath dress that has an amazing fit! It's a really quick sew that has classic lines and looks great on everyone I have seen. To make it better the pattern is releasing TODAY!!!

That's right Tami over at Love Notions is releasing 2 patterns today!! The Tessa top and the Tabitha sheath dress!

This dress works great for the office,

Chasing around 3 wild farmkids,

and has the option of adding an extra spice to life with a contrasting yoke.

While I haven't hack the pattern yet to make it nursing friendly, it is also very nice to have something very feminine but also modest. I see a few more of these creeping into my work and summer wardrobe.

Whip It Up Wednesday!!: Spring Capsule Sewalong

I've been wanting to go the capsule route for the last 6 months but with a new baby and nursing I just haven't made that leap....

until NOW!!!

If you haven't noticed I really LOVE LOVE to sew... and Becca over at Free Notion came up with this crazy awesome idea of sewing your spring capsule in a week! Well maybe not your entire capsule but 9 or fewer pieces...separates you can mix and match.

That's right this girl!!

I have jumped in feet first! I have already planned my capsule and done my fabric selection. Plus I've started cutting and sewing my pieces as well... why? Well one because I can't cut then sew days later..I do best if I cut and sew a garment at the same basic time... and secondly I get to it when I can which has been at about 4:30 or 5 in the morning this week.

Everything in blue I already have on hand. The grey bow ballet flats I found at Walmart on sale, the cardigan is from Gap, a pair of black leggings that are super comfy, grey knit "dress" pants I've had for years, a purple nursing top from Target, and my favorite Jack Rogers. Oh, those cute necklaces are KEEP!!! Want one? You can purchase it here.

Everything in pink is an item I need to make or already have made. I just realized there has been an edit. I switched the Sorbetto from Colette for the Seamwork Akita, a free 30 minute skirt pattern from Make It Perfect , The Only Tee (tank version/tunic length), La Bella Donna, and the Sabrina Slims. All of these items fall into the quick sew category. I can't wait to take some shots of the outfits all together...NEXT WEEK!

So that's great I have all these patterns but what about fabric...well I have a massive stash and was able to pull from it. But you can many times pick up the needed fabric locally at a Hobby Lobby, Hancock's or even Wal-Mart.

All of my fabrics for this challenge came from Girl Charlee & Hawthrone Threads. Both have great customer service and fast shipping.

Whip it Up Wednesday: #Farmgirl Peplum Top

Hi Y'all! Welcome to my new Wednesday feature!

I'm so excited to share my passions with each of you.

I typically blog about farm life and being a farm wife & mom.

Today starts the first day of blogging about a passion of mine....

SEWING!!

I love to sew...a little bit of everything.

Mainly I sew fabric buntings for my Etsy shop, Cookies & Milk Too.

But I also sew clothes, home decor, etc.

This was a custom blanket for this little cutie.

After dropping tons of cash on adorable baby clothes for the Farmgirl,

someone asked at church, "That is so cute! I know you sew...did you make her outfit?"

My heart sank, my palms got a little sweaty when I had to admit... "No, I bought it." :(

Now don't get me wrong I have sewn her a few things...

I mean I did make her about 1/2 a dozen dresses that she outgrew by a month old...

and there is this one that finally fits.

But honestly most of her clothes I have bought from adorable little stores I find online.

But after the sweet mama at church asked I couldn't help but think...

I should be making most of her clothes...

I mean really... I SEW!!!

Will it save me lots of money...no,

Will it save me lots of time...no,

but it will make me happy so the 2 things above are kinda irrelevant.

The first thing I did was scour Pinterest looking for ideas.

I decided I would love to make her a little peplum top since she is trying to start crawling and we have found that dresses seem to trip her up....on 2nd thought maybe I'll make a few more LONG dresses too LOL.

I also decided on the peplum top because I like that look for summer

and plan to make her a couple of swim suits

The Farmgirl is like me, fairly pale, so she will need all the sun protection she can get.

I searched around for a top that I could use for both swim and casual wear....

So I whipped up this adorable little top for the Farmgirl.

The pattern was easy to follow and I love that it comes with the layer option so I only have to print the pages I need for the size I'm sewing. I also love that I can pick up where I left off without having to completely retrace your steps when someone needs to nurse, a potty break or I have to go feed cows.

Mommy Monday

Today is Monday- you know that awful day when you wake up and realize its back to work...ugh its always been funny to me how far Monday is from Friday but how close Friday is to Monday...but anyways...

So some of you may remember back in January I started Good Morning Girls study in Ephesians- now to be honest I have been terrible at keeping up with the reading and the SOAP (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer). It's not that I don't want to but I forget continuously and if I don't forget, I put it off saying I'll do it later and well we all know...later never gets here. This morning I was almost 2 full weeks behind but thankfully each week is only a few verses so I can easily catch up but when I don't read and focus on the small verses daily I feel that I am missing out on many of the important things God is trying to tell me. I am happy to say as of now I am officially caught up and hope to finish out the next 2 weeks without forgetting or putting off. I am going to schedule it on my calender...maybe that will help.

I took this weekend as a break, no obligations, official workouts, or big to-do list. Saturday began with Wyatt and Mommy cuddle time and then we made semi-homemade doughnuts.

They were "licious" according to lil man. We finally were able to sit down and watch some good Saturday morning cartoons together without having to rush out and run errands or go somewhere.

We got some playtime in with Joe-Joe, Mollie, & Millie (our cowdogs).

As I was cleaning up I ran across my Granny's recipe binder. I thought that the only recipes in there were ones that she cut out of magazines, flyers, etc

I was shocked and delighted to discover that there were a good many handwritten recipes, including Red Velvet Cake, Bread & Butter Pickles, and many more!

I love the worn, stained recipes that bring back fond memories of my childhood growing up next door. I can't wait to make these for my family.

Saturday afternoon Wyatt & I went fishing. The lil man caught a good sized brim within 5 minutes of his 1st cast...

Then a 2nd one just a short while later...

Once we fished the upper pond we took a ride to the lower pond and on the way we saw a nice flock of turkeys which Wyatt immediately wanted to hunt!

We also started working on our raised beds (pictures to come). We have 4-5 beds depending on how we put them together. Right now we only have 1 about halfway done...hopefully we can work on them some more tonight. Ideally we will plant by the end of the week. I have some great ideas for our garden and play area from Pinterest of course!

I also plan to break out the sewing machine again soon...especially since Brandy will soon be scheduling a photo shoot in which I will be supply custom made clothing for the kiddos. I have lots of ideas on what these outfits will look like. But first I want to make something for lil' man and myself, since it always seems like I sew for everyone but us. My plan for me is either a new dress or skirt for spring from one of ICandy's tutorials. For lil man it will be something fun...like an appliqued Easter shirt or new shorts for summer.

I have lots of plans to enjoy this upcoming weekend as well...because after it my life goes back to normal. From the last weekend of March through the 1st weekend of May I have something on my calendar each weekend...from my bestfriend's wedding (Yay!!) to conferences, livestock shows, and 4-H events...not to mention work.
